The
Fun-Start Mk2 is the ultimate slope basic
trainer, easy to build, easy to fly, easy on the pocket yet
very tough and robust. Several hundred of the original Fun-Starts
have been built and a number are used or recommended as club
trainers. The Mk2 features a slightly slimmer plywood
core fuselage that is clad in EPP (expanded polypropylene)
and covered in cross weave filament tape, the normal base
covering for EPP models. The wing has sturdy plywood mainspars
with trailing edge stiffening and is held on with rubber bands
to allow the wing to move should it hit an obstacle on landing.
Based on the our well known and much loved Ab Initio the Fun-Start
is the ideal model for all those wanting to learn to fly,
particularly the very young and the the more senior amongst
us. After initial trimming flights and a few basic lessons
most 'ab initio' pilots should be able to fly without
'close' supervision except for landing and launching. The
Fun-Start will fly in most winds and is capable of
all the usual rudder elevator aerbatics including barrel rolls
etc.
