The
Aermacchi 339 is a stylish EPP Power Scale
Soarer (PSS), designed for the sports flyer looking for something
different. The Aermacchi 339 which is an advanced
jet trainer, was one of the more successful aircraft during
the Falklands conflict. It makes an ideal PSS subject due
to its 'model' size proportions i.e. conventional wing layout
with its high tail (relative to the wing) and reasonable tail
moment plus relatively slim fuselage.
The
Aermacchi will fly in winds from 8 - 10 mph
up to gales with the aid of ballast. It will peform most glider
style aerobatics including outside loops and rolls etc. The
PMP Aermacchi will be noted for it's viceless handling characteristics
along with it's manoeurveability, not to mention FUN
value.
Construction
consists of an EPP wing and fuselage with a Correx fin and
tailplane. Ply doublers and hardwood spruce wing spars are
used to reinforce the structure and give it the necessary
rigidity to withstand normal aerodynamic loads and the 'odd'
arrival! Build time is relatively short at around 10 hours
depending on skill and care taken. Slightly longer if model
is film covered. Standard size radio control equipment was
used on the prototypes but individual aileron wing servos
can be fitted if desired. Aermacchi
